'Role Models (2008)' Textual analysis


Genre: Comedy

Mise En Scene: 
Setting- Minotaur truck and high schools all over America, 2008.
Costume- Suit and Minotaur outfit.
Facial expressions and body language- Unenthusiastic look from Paul Rudd whilst teaching children about drugs. Sean William Scott's character is dancing around in his costume whilst Rudd gives out the aforementioned speech.
Lighting- Dreary pastel colours are used in the interior of the high schools. Green urine stands out from white urinal for effect- subject focus of frame.

Camera:
  • Tracking used as the car drives.
  • Camera zooms into Paul Rudd as an introductory shot.
  • Static shot as car pulls into sidewalk.
  • Camera moves vertically to display the entirety of the customised minotaur truck and to show the two characters' response to it.
  • Over The Shoulder shots are used to show the progression of the conversation between the two characters.
  • Camera pans around the truck as Rudd steps out of the vehicle and then follows him back towards the sidewalk.
Sound:
  • Music begins when title credits appear.
  • Non- diagetic music continues throughout most the opening sequence as a soundtrack.
  • Off-screen insults from high school kid.
  • Sound of speech overlaps with footage of Rudd giving it in various different schools.
Editing:
  • Clean cuts used to highlight the conversation between Rudd and William Scott.
  • Different shots of same speech at different schools are shown whilst one audio track of dialogue is playing.
